The National Commission for Women (NCW) stated that they had not received any complaint from a woman victim regarding sexual abuse allegations against suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna. However, the NCW did receive a complaint from one woman alleging that she was coerced into filing a false complaint against him.
Reports of explicit videos purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna circulated recently, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. Several cases, including a rape case, have been filed against Prajwal Revanna and his father, MLA HD Revanna.
According to the NCW, the woman who came forward alleged that she was pressured by certain individuals to file a complaint under the threat of harassment and false implications. The NCW commended the swift action taken by authorities in response to recent developments in the case.
The NCW noted the involvement of female officers in the investigation, emphasizing their sensitivity and empathy in handling such sensitive cases. While two cases of sexual abuse and one of abduction have been registered based on complaints, no victim has directly approached the commission.
However, the woman who filed the complaint sought protection for her family's well-being, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Additionally, the NCW mentioned that 700 women who submitted online complaints were associated with a social activist group and were not directly linked to the primary complainant in the case.
Prajwal Revanna has denied the authenticity of the videos and lodged a complaint through his polling agent. He is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat and departed for Germany on a diplomatic passport after the polls, without seeking political clearance from the Centre.
