A youngster from Karnataka dies as his mother casts him into waterways rife with crocodiles

A tragic incident unfolded in Halamadi village, Karnataka, where a 32-year-old woman, identified as Savitri, stands accused of throwing her six-year-old son, Vinod, into a canal known to harbor crocodiles. The altercation reportedly erupted on Saturday night following frequent clashes between Savitri and her husband, Ravi Kumar (36), over their son's hearing and speech impairment.

Amidst a heated argument, Savitri allegedly made the fateful decision to hurl Vinod into the canal around 9 pm. This canal, connected to the crocodile-infested River Kali, posed a grave danger to the young child. Despite search efforts by police and fire brigade divers, hindered by the cover of darkness, Vinod's body remained elusive on Saturday night.

Tragically, on Sunday morning, the search team made a grim discovery: Vinod's lifeless body, partially consumed by a crocodile, was recovered from the canal. The extent of the injuries and bite marks on the child's body painted a harrowing picture of his final moments.

Both Savitri and Ravi Kumar, employed as a house help and a mason helper respectively, faced the consequences of this horrifying ordeal. Appearing in court, they were remanded to 14-day judicial custody. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Savitri, speaking to reporters, shifted blame to her husband, accusing him of subjecting her to mental torment and holding him responsible for their son's untimely demise.

Her poignant narrative portrayed a distressing tale of domestic strife and anguish, underscoring the profound impact of familial discord on vulnerable members. As investigations continue into this tragic incident, the community grapples with the sobering reality of a young life lost amidst the turmoil of domestic conflict.
