The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the heatwave gripping most parts of the country is expected to ease starting Friday, with exceptions being West Rajasthan and Kerala. This relief comes as the IMD also alerts about thunderstorms and lightning in regions across north and east India.
According to IMD scientist Soma Sen, the heatwave is anticipated to dissipate across the nation, with only West Rajasthan and Kerala remaining under a heatwave alert. "Tomorrow, the heatwave will only be present in West Rajasthan," she confirmed.
Furthermore, Sen mentioned that a yellow alert has been issued for certain parts of the country due to the uncertain impact of rain activity. She highlighted the increasing thunderstorm activity fueled by strong moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal, indicating a likelihood of cloud-to-ground lightning in several states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, and neighboring areas.
In addition to these alerts, the IMD tweeted on Thursday about the potential for strong winds and hailstorms in parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday. Meanwhile, in Delhi, rain has been forecasted for the week ahead, offering some respite from the scorching temperatures that reached 42 degrees Celsius earlier in the week.
