In response to a tragic incident wherein a girl lost her life in a stray dog attack, Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey swiftly took action by ordering the demolition of several meat and fish shops. Mayor Pandey asserted that these shops were contributing to the aggression of stray dogs in the area.
Expressing her condolences, Mayor Pandey visited the bereaved family promptly, aiming to offer solace during their time of sorrow. However, amidst the grief, local residents voiced their frustration over the perceived lack of police intervention in addressing ongoing illicit activities in the vicinity. They lamented the continued operation of such activities despite their efforts to earn a livelihood through honest means.
Acknowledging the concerns raised by the residents, Mayor Pandey assured them of stringent measures against those involved in unlawful activities. Determined to uphold the law, she proceeded with the demolition of 44 shops despite protests from the shopkeepers, who pleaded for reprieve to no avail.
The Municipal Corporation, substantiating the Mayor's actions, cited reports indicating that the scraps discarded by meat and fish shops were a significant factor fueling the aggressive behavior of stray dogs. Moreover, the Chief Medical Officer highlighted the detrimental effects of contaminated meat consumption on canine behavior, which could precipitate such tragic incidents.
In light of these findings, the Municipal Corporation issued a plea to residents to extend compassion to stray dogs by providing them with water, with a recommendation to place water outside their homes for the animals' convenience. Through these measures, the authorities aim to mitigate the risk posed by aggressive stray dogs while fostering a sense of community responsibility towards animal welfare.
