An arrest order for actor and politician Anubhav Mohanty in connection with a domestic abuse case

The judicial magistrate's court, upon Anubhav Mohanty's repeated absence, issued a warrant, directing law enforcement to execute it before May 23rd. This action stems from a domestic violence case against Mohanty, now a Lok Sabha MP, filed by his former spouse in Cuttack, Odisha, dating back four years.

The court's decision followed Mohanty's failure to make his scheduled appearances, prompting the issuance of a non-bailable warrant (NBW), emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Notably, Mohanty, who recently transitioned from the BJD to the BJP, has been navigating personal and legal matters alongside his political journey.

While the Orissa High Court finalized his divorce from Varsha Priyadarshini in December, legal entanglements persist. Despite the court's leniency, extending deadlines for Mohanty's appearance due to purported personal reasons, he remained absent from proceedings, further complicating matters.

The genesis of the case lies in Priyadarshini's allegations from December 2020, recounting an incident where Mohanty and associates confined her within his family residence, prompting police intervention and her subsequent rescue. Consequently, charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act of 2005 were levied against Mohanty, marking a significant legal battle amidst his political career transition.
