A fire broke out at Eye Mantra Hospital in Delhi's Paschim Vihar area on Tuesday, but fortunately, no injuries were reported as all individuals were safely evacuated from the building. The fire started on the second floor of the hospital around noon, according to a Delhi Fire Services official. Six fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames.
This incident closely follows a tragic fire at a private children's hospital in east Delhi's Vivek Vihar, where seven babies lost their lives. That blaze saw five oxygen cylinders explode, exacerbating the situation.Â
An investigation by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) into the Vivek Vihar hospital fire revealed numerous safety lapses. The commission's report highlighted the absence of emergency exits, non-functional fire extinguishers, and a lack of operational fire alarms and water sprinkler systems. These findings were communicated to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor and the Police Commissioner.
In response to the tragedy, Dr. Naveen Khichi, the owner of the Baby Care Centre, along with an on-duty doctor, was arrested. Both have been placed in three-day police custody as ordered by a city court.
