The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a significant gold smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. Seizing 89 gold biscuits weighing 16.07 kilograms, valued at approximately Rs 12 crore, the BSF thwarted the illicit operation. Additionally, they apprehended one suspect in connection with the smuggling.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the BSF conducted an operation in the Haldarpada border village of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. Surrounding the suspicious house from all directions, BSF personnel, along with local residents as witnesses, conducted a thorough search. This resulted in the discovery of 89 gold biscuits of various shapes and sizes, along with the arrest of the suspect identified as Alok Paul.
Following the operation, the apprehended individual was taken to a nearby border output post for further legal proceedings.
This successful operation adds to the BSF's recent efforts in curbing gold smuggling activities along the border. In a previous incident, the BSF confiscated gold worth Rs 6.7 crore, detaining one suspect with a haul of 16 gold bars and four gold biscuits, collectively weighing around 10.73 kilograms.
