BJP President JP Nadda and the party's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya have been summoned by the Bengaluru Police regarding an 'objectionable post' shared by the Karnataka unit of the party. The summons were issued by the Investigating Officer of the Highgrounds Police in Bengaluru, granting Nadda and Malviya a week to appear before the authorities in connection with the video.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara commented on the police summons, stating that the social media post in question amounts to an attack on certain laws against communal differences. He added that once Nadda and Malviya provide a statement or justification for their actions, further steps will be determined accordingly.
This development follows a directive from the Election Commission, urging the micro-blogging site X to promptly remove the post shared by the BJP's Karnataka unit, deeming it violative of the extant legal framework. Despite the directive, the post remained active on the platform.
Before this, an FIR had been filed against Nadda, Malviya, and BJP Karnataka unit chief BY Vijayendra for sharing a video on social media allegedly depicting the Congress showing favoritism towards Muslims in reservation politics. The video purportedly showcased Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah allocating larger funds to Muslims compared to other marginalized communities like SCs, STs, and OBCs.
