BJD leader mocks Sambit Patra, saying he "should eat properly" as a penance gesture

VK Pandian, a BJD leader, took a jibe at Sambit Patra's decision to fast for three days as penance for his controversial remark about Lord Jagannath. Pandian suggested that Patra should take care of himself and ensure he eats properly, especially considering the heat and dust. He emphasized the importance of Patra maintaining his health, particularly three days before the elections, to avoid any health issues.

Pandian also asserted that the issue concerning Lord Jagannath should not be escalated further, highlighting the deity's significance as a symbol of Odisha's identity. He reiterated that the BJD does not engage in politics over religion, particularly concerning Lord Jagannath.

Sambit Patra's controversial remark, in which he referred to Lord Jagannath as Prime Minister Modi's devotee, sparked widespread criticism. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condemned the remark, stating that it hurt the sentiments of Jagannath devotees and Odias worldwide. Patra later acknowledged his mistake, attributing it to a slip of the tongue, and announced his decision to fast for three days as an act of atonement.
