Four hospitals in Delhi, namely Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, GTB Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, and Hedgewar Hospital, were targeted with bomb threats via email. Fortunately, subsequent search operations yielded no evidence of any suspicious items.
Delhi Police have initiated an investigation to determine the source of the threatening emails. Upon receiving the information, a coordinated response involving bomb disposal squads, bomb detection teams, fire departments, and local police was promptly mobilized to conduct thorough searches at the affected hospitals.
According to officials from the Delhi Fire Services, the influx of calls reporting the bomb threats began around 10:45 am. The sequence of incidents unfolded with Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital receiving the first threat at 9:45 am, followed by Dada Dev Hospital at 10:55 am, Hedgewar Hospital at 11:01 am, and GTB Hospital at 11:12 am.
V K Sharma, a security officer at Hedgewar Hospital, confirmed that checks were conducted multiple times by the police and bomb disposal squads, yet nothing suspicious was discovered. The initial threat email was received by a doctor at Hedgewar Hospital, prompting swift action from authorities.
This incident follows a similar pattern of hoax bomb threats targeting institutions in Delhi. Just a day prior, 20 hospitals in Delhi along with the Indira Gandhi International Airport had also received bomb threats via email, which were later dismissed by Delhi Police as unfounded.
Additionally, earlier in May, over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR received bomb threats via emails originating from a Russian email service. Among the affected schools were prominent institutions such as Delhi Public School (DPS), Sanskriti School, and Amity School, sparking widespread concern and subsequent investigations.
