"Canada a rule-of-law country," said Trudeau in response to the arrests in the Nijjar murder case

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized Canada's commitment to the rule of law and protecting its citizens following the arrest of three Indian nationals charged with the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau stated that Canada has a strong and independent justice system and is dedicated to upholding the rights of all its citizens.

The suspects, Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karan Brar, were arrested in connection with Nijjar's killing, which occurred outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023. Trudeau mentioned that the investigation remains ongoing and highlighted Canada's commitment to ensuring safety and freedom from discrimination for all Canadians.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar responded to the development, stating that India will await information from Canadian police regarding the arrests. He noted concerns about organized crime from India operating in Canada but emphasized that the situation is primarily due to Canada's internal politics and not related to India.

Relations between India and Canada had strained previously following Trudeau's allegations of potential Indian involvement in Nijjar's killing, which India rejected as unfounded.
