Cometh Abhishek Manu Singhvi, cometh the legal battles of the opposition

Abhishek Manu Singhvi has emerged as a formidable legal force, particularly representing the opposition in various courtroom battles. His recent successes include securing interim relief for key opposition figures like Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, crucially ahead of significant political events like Lok Sabha elections.

Singhvi's legal acumen was highlighted in his representation of Arvind Kejriwal, where he systematically dismantled the Enforcement Directorate's charges against the Delhi Chief Minister. Singhvi strategically refrained from filing a bail application, challenging Kejriwal's arrest instead. He capitalized on the timing of the arrest vis-à-vis the Model Code of Conduct and ultimately secured interim bail until June 1.

In the courtroom, Singhvi punched holes into the ED's case, highlighting inconsistencies in witness statements and underscoring the lack of evidence implicating Kejriwal. He effectively argued against the ED's characterization of Kejriwal as the "kingpin" of the Delhi liquor policy, pointing out the absence of his name in chargesheets and witness statements until July 2023.

Singhvi's legal prowess was further evident in his defense of Sanjay Singh, another AAP leader arrested in the same case. He emphasized the ED's failure to establish a trail of evidence and questioned the credibility of key witness statements.

Beyond his recent legal victories, Singhvi's illustrious career spans various high-profile cases and positions, including serving as Congress spokesperson and chairperson of the parliamentary standing committee on law and justice. Despite facing controversies, such as the sex CD row in 2012, Singhvi remains a prominent figure in legal and political circles, known for his stellar academic background and formidable courtroom presence.
