Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's accusation that Rahul Gandhi has been displaying the Chinese constitution at his rallies, instead of the Indian one, sparked a rebuttal from the Congress party. Himanta Sarma's comment led to ridicule from Congress leaders, who pointed out that the colour of the Constitution copy is not fixed.
Rahul Gandhi has often been seen with a pocket-sized copy of the Indian Constitution, which has a red binding.
However, Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that the original Chinese constitution has a red cover and insinuated that Rahul Gandhi was using the Chinese Constitution at his rallies. He argued that the authentic Indian Constitution has a blue cover.
In response, several social media users clarified that the red-bound Constitution is a coat pocket edition, commonly presented to top Indian leaders, including the President and the Union Home Minister.
Undeterred, Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his claim, suggesting that Rahul Gandhi opposes the Directive Principles of State Policy, including the enactment of a Uniform Civil Code, which is outlined in the Indian Constitution. Therefore, he implied that Rahul Gandhi must be holding a Chinese constitution.
The Congress party mocked Himanta Biswa Sarma's statement, with Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Kumar Borah asserting that the colour of the Constitution's cover is not fixed, unlike an Indian passport.
Additionally, the Indian Youth Congress shared photos of top political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the red-bound Constitution, further challenging Sarma's accusation.
