Congress said after the Poonch assault that the INDIA bloc will strengthen counter-terror grid

The Congress and its allies in the INDIA bloc have pledged to strengthen the counter-terrorism grid in Jammu and Kashmir following the recent terror attack in Poonch district, where one Air Force soldier lost his life and four others were injured. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh condemned the attack, highlighting it as part of a concerning trend in the hilly Rajouri-Poonch areas near the Line of Control (LoC). He emphasized the need for collective societal deterrence against terrorism and pledged full support to bolster the efforts of security personnel.

Ramesh outlined the INDIA bloc's approach, which involves empowering the political class and civil society to support the troops effectively. He stressed the importance of transcending religious and ethnic ties to foster peace and security in the region, making all stakeholders equal partners in the endeavor.

Meanwhile, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi also condemned the attack, expressing solidarity with the armed forces and offering condolences to the family of the deceased soldier. Kharge condemned the "dastardly" attack and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel, while Gandhi described it as "cowardly" and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured soldiers.
