Continued heatwave in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh; five states are expected to see thunderstorms



The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, and parts of Andhra Pradesh until May 23.

Key points from the IMD forecast include:

1. **Rainfall and Thunderstorms**:
   - **Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka**: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.
   - **Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Lakshadweep**: Heavy downpours expected.
   - **Tamil Nadu and Kerala**: Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated during this period.
   - **Andaman and Nicobar Islands**: Light to moderate rainfall, with heavy rain likely in the Nicobar Islands.
   - **Konkan, Goa, Parts of Maharashtra, and Central India**: Similar weather conditions expected.
   - **Northeastern States**: Widespread rainfall with strong winds due to a cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjacent regions.

2. **Heat Wave Conditions**:
   - **Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh**: Continued heatwave conditions, with temperatures expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in central India and parts of Maharashtra.
   - **Northwest India**: Gradual temperature rise predicted after two days.
   - **Other Affected Regions**: Severe heatwave conditions are expected in several pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
   - **Warmer and More Humid Conditions**: Expected in Konkan, Goa, parts of West Bengal, and Odisha, with warm nights projected for East Rajasthan and Bihar.

3. **Western Disturbance Effects**:
   - **North India**: Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected due to a western disturbance over Afghanistan and North Pakistan.
