The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has announced stringent measures to address the water crisis exacerbated by an intense heatwave in the national capital. With immediate effect, individuals found wasting water will face a hefty challan of Rs 2,000. This decision underscores the urgent need to conserve water resources amid the prevailing challenging conditions.
As part of this initiative, activities such as the overflow of water tanks, washing cars and other vehicles, and utilizing domestic water supply for construction and commercial purposes are strictly prohibited. The DJB plans to deploy 200 teams across Delhi to crack down on violators who engage in water wastage. Furthermore, the AAP government has mandated the disconnection of any illegal water connections identified on construction sites or commercial establishments.
These enforcement teams will commence operations from 8 am tomorrow morning to ensure compliance with water conservation regulations.
In an official statement, Delhi's Water Minister, Atishi, highlighted the critical importance of water conservation during the current heatwave, compounded by the shortage of water supply due to Haryana's withholding of Delhi's share. She emphasized the need to address the alarming rate of water wastage observed in various parts of Delhi, including the unauthorized tapping of water meant for domestic use by construction sites and commercial entities. Atishi stressed the imperative to crack down on such misuse of water resources to mitigate the impact of the water crisis gripping the city.
