An IndiGo flight bound for Varanasi from Delhi encountered a "specific bomb threat" on Tuesday, as confirmed by the airline. Following protocol, all passengers were swiftly evacuated through emergency exits, and the aircraft was relocated to an isolation bay for a thorough inspection.
Fortunately, the threat was determined to be unfounded.
IndiGo released a statement affirming, "IndiGo flight 6E2211 operating from Delhi to Varanasi had received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. All necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies."
It further stated, "All passengers were safely evacuated via the emergency exits. The flight is currently undergoing inspection. Post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area."
A senior official from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) informed ANI news agency that a "tissue paper, with the word 'bomb' written on it, was found in the lavatory" of the aircraft. Subsequently, security agencies conducted an extensive inspection, only to ascertain that the threat was indeed a hoax.
Presently, an aviation security team along with a bomb disposal squad is on-site, conducting a thorough investigation of the aircraft.
This incident adds to a recent series of bomb threat scares across various establishments, including government offices, educational institutions, hospitals, airports, and hotels. Fortunately, all these threats have been determined to be false alarms.
The incident underscores the importance of vigilance and adherence to security protocols in ensuring the safety of air travel and public spaces amidst such threats.
