The allegations of sexual harassment against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose have triggered a significant investigation by the Kolkata Police, with a Special Enquiry Team (SET) being constituted to probe the matter. The team, led by DC (Central) Indira Mukherjee, has already begun its investigation by summoning four staff members of Raj Bhavan and will continue to speak to witnesses over the coming days. Additionally, the police have requested Raj Bhavan to share any available CCTV footage related to the allegations.
The female contractual employee's written complaint with the Kolkata Police has brought attention to the serious allegations against the Governor. However, due to Constitutional immunity under Article 361(2), criminal proceedings cannot be initiated against him during his term in office.
In response to the allegations, Governor Bose has denied any wrongdoing and has imposed a ban on police entry to Raj Bhavan, alleging unauthorized and politically motivated investigations. He has also expressed determination to continue his efforts against corruption and violence in the state.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condemned the alleged misconduct by the Governor and expressed support for the woman who came forward with the accusations. Banerjee's remarks underscore the gravity of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.
