In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that a "succession war" is ongoing within the BJP, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paving the way for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to succeed him.
Kejriwal referred to statements made by Amit Shah in 2019, where Shah reportedly stated that leaders aged 75 and above would be retired from active roles within the BJP. Kejriwal also pointed out that Modi himself implemented this rule in 2014, emphasizing the promotion of younger leaders. He cited examples such as LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Sumitra Mahajan, who were sidelined or retired from prominent positions within the party.
According to Kejriwal, this pattern indicates an internal struggle within the BJP, with Modi systematically sidelining senior leaders. He mentioned the removal of leaders like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Vasundhara Raje, Khattar, and Dr. Raman Singh, suggesting that even Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath might face a similar fate.
Kejriwal further asserted that Modi plans to pass the baton to Amit Shah on September 17, 2025, the day Modi turns 75.
However, the BJP has refuted Kejriwal's claims. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that Narendra Modi will continue as Prime Minister for a third term, dismissing any notion of succession plans involving Shah.
Kejriwal's remarks add fuel to the ongoing political discourse surrounding leadership dynamics within the BJP, highlighting perceptions of internal power struggles and potential transitions within the party's hierarchy.
