Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekar Rao revealed that his past support for the BJP was primarily aimed at maintaining a constitutional relationship with the central government, especially considering that Telangana was a newly formed state. Rao clarified that his cooperation with the BJP occurred in various instances, such as during presidential elections, to uphold this relationship.
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Rao expressed confidence in the electoral landscape of Telangana, asserting that the BJP lacks significant support in the state. He predicted that the saffron party would likely secure none or just one seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Rao also criticized the BJP's handling of the Delhi liquor scam, particularly the arrest of his daughter K Kavitha, labeling it as a "cruel game" orchestrated by Prime Minister Modi. He dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
Regarding his initial support for demonetization, Rao admitted that while they initially viewed it as a positive step, the disastrous consequences became evident soon after, prompting vehement opposition.
Furthermore, Rao dismissed the idea of a unified opposition under the banner of the INDIA alliance, labeling it as a myth. He emphasized the strength of regional parties and predicted their emergence as a significant force in the parliamentary elections.
