In response to the tragic Pune Porsche crash, authorities are considering implementing measures to ensure better compliance with rules and regulations in bars and pubs across the city. One such measure being contemplated is the webcasting of entry and exit points of these establishments. This move aims to monitor adherence to rules such as barring minors from entering, as well as ensuring establishments close within prescribed time limits.
According to officials, webcasting would enable close monitoring of the activities outside bars and pubs, which is challenging with traditional surveillance methods. The concept draws inspiration from the successful use of webcasting during elections, where it facilitated monitoring of polling booths.
While the specifics of the webcasting plan are yet to be finalized, officials are working on the infrastructure required for its implementation. Charan Singh Rajput, superintendent of the Maharashtra excise department, confirmed that the department is actively considering the idea.
This initiative comes amidst a crackdown on bars and pubs in Pune following the Porsche crash incident. The actions taken by the local administration have sparked protests from employees of affected establishments, who fear for their livelihoods.
The incident itself, involving a 17-year-old who spent a significant amount on alcohol before causing the fatal accident, has drawn widespread outrage. The swift bail granted to the accused, along with subsequent revelations of evidence tampering, has further intensified public scrutiny.
As investigations continue and legal proceedings unfold, authorities are under pressure to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future. The proposed webcasting initiative reflects efforts to enhance oversight and enforce compliance with regulations in the hospitality sector.
