Following a car crash in Andhra Pradesh, cash worth Rs 7 crore was taken into custody

In another incident of pre-poll cash seizure in Andhra Pradesh, police in East Godavari discovered Indian currency valued at Rs 7 crore, packed in seven boxes inside a commercial vehicle.

The seizure occurred after the vehicle carrying the cash overturned following a collision with a lorry at Anantapally in Nallajarla Mandal.

Local residents noticed individuals transferring seven cardboard boxes of cash from one sack to another inside the vehicle and promptly alerted the police. The seized amount is estimated to be around Rs.7 crore.

The incident occurred while the vehicle was traveling from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam.

The driver of the overturned vehicle sustained injuries and was taken to Gopalapuram Hospital for medical treatment.

An investigation has been launched by the police to determine the origin of the cash.

This incident follows closely after another cash seizure just two days prior, where unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 8 crore was confiscated from a truck at a checkpost in the NTR district. Two individuals were detained in connection with this cash seizure.

The cash was concealed in a hidden compartment of the truck loaded with pipes.

These incidents mark the second significant cash haul seizure in the state ahead of the May 13 elections.
