Following NEET, a medical candidate leaves Kota and says she will return in five years

A 19-year-old student who recently took the NEET exam in Kota, Rajasthan, has gone missing after his exam on May 5. Prior to his disappearance, he sent a WhatsApp message to his family stating that he no longer wished to pursue further studies and was leaving home for five years.

The student, identified as Rajendra Meena, informed his parents that he had decided to discontinue his studies and mentioned having Rs 8,000 in his possession. He assured his family that he would contact them once a year. Rajendra had been residing in Kota for the past three years, preparing for the NEET exam.

Despite initially informing his family that the exam went well and he had answered 160 questions, Rajendra later messaged his brother expressing his intention to discontinue his studies and disappear for five years. He mentioned selling his phone and destroying the SIM card, causing concern among his family members.

Efforts to reach Rajendra via his phone have been unsuccessful as it remains switched off. His father has filed a missing report, and both police authorities and family members are actively searching for him. His sudden disappearance has left his family distressed, with his mother falling ill due to worry.

Rajendra's father expressed understanding and forgiveness upon his son's return, emphasizing concern for his wife's health. Investigating officers speculate that the stress of the NEET exam may have contributed to Rajendra's decision to vanish. The local police have formed teams to locate him, given the seriousness of the situation.

Cases of students facing extreme academic pressure in Kota have become increasingly common, with some resorting to drastic measures such as fleeing their accommodations or, tragically, ending their lives.
