Gurjeet Singh Aujla of the Congress seeks a hat-trick in the four-cornered battle in Amritsar

The Amritsar Lok Sabha seat is witnessing a four-cornered contest among candidates from the Congress, AAP, BJP, and SAD. Incumbent MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla of the Congress aims for a third consecutive win, facing strong opposition from candidates representing other parties.

Gurjeet Singh Aujla, who emerged victorious in the 2017 bypoll and 2019 general elections, is campaigning vigorously to retain his seat. However, this time, he faces tough competition in a dynamic electoral landscape.

AAP has nominated Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, a Cabinet Minister and MLA from Ajnala, to challenge Aujla. The BJP has fielded former IFS officer Taranjit Singh Sandhu, while the SAD has put forward Anil Joshi, a former BJP member.

Candidates are actively engaging with voters in the constituency, highlighting their respective visions for development and addressing key issues. While Aujla emphasizes his track record in bringing development to Amritsar and criticizes the central government's handling of inflation and unemployment, Dhaliwal questions Aujla's achievements and promises a change.

Aujla remains confident in his ability to secure victory, citing dissatisfaction with the central government's performance. He also criticizes the AAP government in Punjab for its handling of issues like drug abuse.

Anil Joshi, representing the SAD, emphasizes his past achievements in the Punjab government and stands by the farmers, highlighting his alignment with their interests. Taranjit Sandhu of the BJP outlines his vision for infrastructure and law enforcement improvements in Amritsar.

Amritsar, historically a high-profile constituency, has seen shifts in political dynamics over the years. While AAP holds sway in most Assembly segments, the upcoming elections remain crucial for all parties.

AAP's strong performance in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha polls has bolstered its position in the region. The final outcome will be determined by factors such as candidate appeal, party strategies, and voter sentiment, with Punjab scheduled to vote in the final phase of polling on June 1, and vote counting slated for June 4.
