"I'm sorry, Papa." A Kota NEET candidate commits suicide, the second such incident in 48 hours

In a tragic turn of events, the lifeless body of a 20-year-old aspiring medical student was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan in his room in Kota. This heartbreaking discovery occurred just days before his third attempt at conquering the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) exam. A note, bearing the poignant message "Sorry Papa, I couldn't do it this year as well," was found at the scene, shedding light on the profound despair that plagued the young man's final moments.

The student, identified as Bharat Kumar Rajput hailing from Rajasthan, had previously endeavored the NEET exam twice and was gearing up for his third endeavor scheduled for May 5. Bharat, who had been residing as a paying guest in the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area, dedicated the past year to diligent preparation for the rigorous medical entrance examination. Sharing his abode with his nephew Rohit, who was also immersed in NEET exam preparations, Bharat's aspirations were tragically cut short on a fateful Tuesday morning.

Rohit, Bharat's nephew, briefly stepped out of the room around 10.30 am, only to return to the devastating sight of his uncle's lifeless form upon his re-entry. The heart-wrenching scene unfolded further when, at around 11.15 am, Rohit found the room locked from within, prompting him to peer through a window, where the haunting sight of Bharat hanging from the ceiling fan greeted him, the bedsheet serving as a silent witness to the unfolding tragedy.

A note, bearing the weight of Bharat's anguish and regret, was recovered from the room, encapsulating his profound apology to his father for his perceived failure yet again. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police suggest that the immense pressure stemming from the prospect of underperformance in his third NEET attempt may have propelled Bharat to undertake such a drastic course of action.

In a somber aftermath, Bharat's remains have been transferred to the mortuary of MBS Hospital for post-mortem examination, marking the poignant end of a promising life overshadowed by the relentless pursuit of academic success. This harrowing incident follows closely on the heels of another tragic suicide within the NEET aspirant community, underscoring the urgent need for greater awareness and support mechanisms to address the mental health challenges faced by young students navigating the competitive landscape of medical entrance examinations.
