In the Akhnoor gorge in Jammu and Kashmir, a bus falls, killing 21 people



The tragic bus accident near Tanda in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor city has resulted in the loss of at least 21 lives and left 40 others injured. The bus, which was carrying passengers from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, was en route from Jammu to the Shiv Khori shrine in Reasi district when it fell into a deep gorge near Kali Dhar Mandir on the Jammu-Poonch highway.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated, with the injured being rushed to local hospitals in Akhnoor and the Government Medical College in Jammu. The District Magistrate of Jammu confirmed the incident and stated that efforts were underway to aid those affected.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, acknowledging the sorrow caused by the accident. He extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. Additionally, he announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
