In Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, a bus plunges into a ravine, killing 20 people



The northwest region of Pakistan was struck by tragedy as a passenger bus veered off the treacherous Karakoram Highway in Diamer district, Gilgit-Baltistan, claiming the lives of at least 20 individuals. The bus, en route from Rawalpindi to Hunza, met with a fatal accident when the driver lost control, sending the vehicle plummeting into a ravine.

Authorities are currently engaged in rescue operations, with at least 15 injured passengers receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Chilas. However, the severity of the situation is underscored by the critical condition of many of the injured, indicating a potential rise in the death toll.

Among the deceased are three women, according to hospital sources, and as efforts continue, the grim reality of the tragedy unfolds. Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan has extended condolences and urged swift medical assistance for the injured.

An emergency response has been activated at the Chilas Hospital, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate medical attention.
