Security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district achieved a significant breakthrough on Sunday as they conducted a joint operation resulting in the arrest of a terrorist associate and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition.
The operation, conducted jointly by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, targeted the Pethkoot forest area following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the region. As a result of the meticulously planned search operation, law enforcement authorities successfully seized four pistols, a hand grenade, and various other war-like stores from the forest area.
This successful operation underscores the continued vigilance and proactive measures taken by security forces to combat terrorism in the region. A case has been registered in connection with the recovery of arms and ammunition.
The heightened state of alert in Jammu and Kashmir follows recent terrorist incidents, including the April 28 Udhampur attack where a Village Defence Guard (VDG) lost his life in an encounter with terrorists. In another incident on May 4, terrorists targeted an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, resulting in the death of one IAF soldier and injuries to four others. The injured personnel were promptly evacuated to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for medical treatment.
