In Karnataka, five students perish while swimming in the Cauvery River



Tragedy struck as five students, including three women, lost their lives in a devastating incident at the confluence of the river Cauvery in Karnataka's Ramanagara district. According to the police, the unfortunate event occurred on Monday afternoon while the students were enjoying a swim.

These young individuals, hailing from an engineering college in Bengaluru, had embarked on an outing to Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk of the district. However, amidst their recreational activities, tragedy struck when they were swept away by a whirlpool, resulting in their untimely demise.

The victims have been identified as Harshita (20), Abhishek (20), Tejas (21), Varsha (20), and Sneha (19), all students of the engineering college in Bengaluru. The shocking incident left their companions in a state of distress, prompting seven of them to flee the scene following the tragic loss of their friends.

Authorities swiftly responded to the situation, filing a case and arranging for the bodies to be transported to Dayananda Sagar Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Ramanagara Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthik Reddy confirmed the incident, emphasizing that all 12 students who were part of the outing had been accounted for.

Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, SP Karthik Reddy provided details of the distressing event, highlighting the young age of the victims and the tragic circumstances surrounding their deaths.
