In the Karnataka hospital, doctors treat patients with torches due to power outages

A government hospital in Molakalmuru, located in Karnataka's Chitradurga district, is facing severe electricity issues, leaving staff and patients in distress. The 100-bed hospital has been operating under dire conditions, with medical staff forced to use torches, mobile phone lights, and candles to examine patients due to a lack of proper lighting. A video capturing this struggle has gone viral, highlighting the hospital's plight.

The hospital authorities have come under fire for neglecting the situation, as the generator has been out of service for nearly a week. The electricity supply was disrupted following a heavy rain spell, compounding the hospital's problems.

MLA NY Gopalakrishnan pointed out that the hospital currently has only a 100 kW generator, while its needs exceed that, requiring a 250 kW generator. The Congress leader alleged that the chief doctor, affiliated with the BJP, failed to inform the local MLA about the issue to tarnish his image.

Speaking to India Today, Congress MLA NY Gopalakrishna expressed his intent to submit a proposal to the government for the installation of a 250 kW generator. He blamed the previous legislator for the current problems. During his inspection of the hospital, he had a heated exchange with the doctor. "It was my duty to go to the hospital and inspect... in front of the patients, the doctor behaved very rudely. That's why I advised him that being a doctor, he shouldn't utter such vulgar words," Gopalakrishnan said, accusing the doctor of politicizing the situation to damage his reputation. He noted that the doctor later admitted his mistake and apologized.

Meanwhile, the BJP criticized the Congress government over the incident. They tweeted photos and videos of the hospital, taking a jibe at the state government. "One year guarantee Darkness Bhagya' It's a gift from the Congress government in Karnataka which is celebrating the completion of one year in office! Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reached such a dire situation that even hospitals are not supplied with electricity. The treasury is empty, and there is no electricity! This is a Chombu' (round water pot) and Chippu' (coconut shell) government!," the BJP tweeted.

The Congress had previously labeled the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a "Chombu" government, symbolizing emptiness. In retaliation, the BJP initiated a campaign calling the Siddaramaiah administration a "Chippu" government, signifying inadequacy and inefficiency.
