An arrest warrant has been issued against suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna in connection with the sex scandal that surfaced last month. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) obtained court permission to issue the warrant against him.
Prajwal Revanna came under scrutiny after multiple explicit videos allegedly involving him circulated online just before the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26. He was the joint candidate of the JD(S) and BJP from Haasan constituency.
Currently believed to be in Germany, Prajwal Revanna faces serious charges including rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmailing, and threatening. Interpol has issued a blue corner notice against him to facilitate his apprehension.
Meanwhile, a Bengaluru court extended the interim anticipatory bail granted to Prajwal Revanna's father, HD Revanna, until May 20. HD Revanna, a former minister, was arrested by the SIT on May 4 in connection with an alleged kidnapping case involving a woman who was reportedly raped by Prajwal Revanna.
The Congress government has established an SIT to investigate these cases. However, both the BJP and JD(S), partners in the NDA coalition, have demanded that the cases be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and have urged action against those responsible for circulating the explicit videos.
