In Kerala, 11 deaths have been linked to rain, and seven districts have issued yellow alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for seven districts in Kerala, anticipating heavy rainfall to continue in the state on Saturday. This alert is in place for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod, with expected rainfall ranging between 6 cm and 11 cm.

State Revenue Minister K. Rajan reported that Kerala has experienced at least 11 rain-related fatalities from May 9 to May 23. These incidents include six drownings, two quarry accidents, two lightning strikes, and one house collapse.

Minister Rajan mentioned that rainfall in Kerala is expected to slightly decrease after Saturday. He urged residents to avoid water bodies and coastal areas, emphasizing the importance of keeping children away from such areas during the vacation period.

Local authorities, including the Fire Department, police, and Revenue Department, are on high alert to manage any emergencies. Additionally, two teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the state.

As of Friday evening, eight relief camps have been set up across the state, providing shelter to 223 people.
