The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in multiple locations on Tuesday, including Kumaraswamy Layout and Banashankari in Bengaluru, as part of their investigation into the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case. The explosion, which occurred on March 1, resulted in injuries to several customers and staff members and caused significant damage to the cafe in Bengaluru.
The NIA initiated these raids based on information linking certain suspects to those involved in the blast. A senior NIA official confirmed that the raids were taking place in various locations across different states.
The NIA took over the investigation on March 3 and had arrested two key suspects on April 12, including the alleged mastermind, Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa, and Mussavir Hussain Shazib, who reportedly placed the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the cafe. These arrests were made at a lodge near Kolkata, where the suspects were staying under false identities.
The suspects are believed to be members of the Shivamogga-based Islamic State module, which was also linked to a blast carried out by another member, Shariq, in Mangaluru on November 19, 2022.
