A FedEx Airlines Boeing 767 cargo plane made a dramatic landing at Istanbul Airport after its front landing gear failed to deploy. The aircraft, which was flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, managed to touch down safely under the guidance of air traffic control, averting any casualties.
Rescue and firefighting teams were on standby as the plane approached the runway, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Despite the malfunctioning landing gear, the aircraft remained on the runway and did not veer off course.
The incident involved a Boeing 767 freighter, a widely used cargo aircraft based on the passenger model introduced in the 1980s. FedEx, the operator of the plane, stated that it was cooperating with investigation authorities to determine the cause of the landing gear failure.
Video footage captured the tense moments as the plane's front section scraped along the runway, emitting sparks and smoke before coming to a stop. Firefighting foam was deployed to ensure the safety of the aircraft and the surrounding area.
While the runway was temporarily closed for inspection, operations at the airport continued on other runways without interruption. Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, has faced increased scrutiny following incidents involving its 737 model, although it was not immediately available for comment on this specific incident.
