Kalpana, Hemant Soren's wife, submits a nomination for the Gandey bypoll in Jharkhand

Kalpana Soren, wife of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, took a significant step in her political journey by filing her nomination as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate for the Gandey assembly bypoll. The seat left vacant after the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad, will undergo a by-poll on May 20, coinciding with the state's Lok Sabha elections.

Accompanied by prominent political figures including her brother-in-law Basant Soren, Chief Minister Champai Soren, and Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur, Kalpana Soren submitted her nomination papers. She emphasized her commitment to serving the people of Gandey and solicited their support and blessings for the upcoming election.

Kalpana Soren's foray into politics comes amid her husband's incarceration by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case. Despite speculations surrounding her candidacy, particularly fueled by the BJP's claims regarding her husband's potential summons, Kalpana Soren maintained her dedication to her husband's political legacy.

Her entry into politics represents a natural progression, considering her active involvement in her husband's political endeavors throughout his career. Despite being a newcomer in the political arena, Kalpana Soren is poised to carry forward the principles and values championed by her husband.

In her nomination papers, Kalpana Soren declared assets amounting to Rs 5.51 crore, including commercial and residential properties, financial investments, and valuable assets such as cars and jewelry. With an educational background in MBA and BTech, she brings a diverse skill set to her political aspirations, poised to contribute to the development and progress of the Gandey constituency.
