Karan Bhushan Singh is who? BJP chooses a former shooter for Kaiserganj

Karan Bhushan Singh, the younger son of Brij Bhushan Singh, is set to enter the political arena with his debut in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, contesting from the BJP stronghold of Kaiserganj. This move marks a significant shift for the BJP, as it drops its long-standing incumbent, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, from the electoral race in Kaiserganj.

Amid allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Brij Bhushan Singh by several women wrestlers during his tenure as the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), the BJP has opted to field Karan Bhushan Singh as its candidate from Kaiserganj.

Karan Bhushan Singh, born on December 13, 1990, boasts a background in sports, having competed at the national level in double trap shooting. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and pursued further studies in law at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University. Additionally, he has completed a diploma in business management in Australia.

Presently, Karan Bhushan Singh serves as the president of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association, showcasing his continued involvement in sports administration. Before this role, he held the position of senior vice president of the UP wrestling association.

However, Karan's entry into politics has not been without controversy. Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik voiced their opposition, threatening protests, citing earlier assurances from the government that individuals associated with Brij Bhushan Singh would not hold positions of authority in sports governance.

Apart from his involvement in sports administration, Karan Bhushan Singh also holds the position of president at the Cooperative Village Development Bank in Nawabganj, Gonda, further highlighting his engagement in community development initiatives.

As the political landscape in Kaiserganj evolves, Karan Bhushan Singh gears up to file his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place in the fifth phase on May 20, with the nomination filing likely to occur on May 3. His candidacy represents a new chapter in the electoral dynamics of Kaiserganj, signaling a generational shift in leadership and political representation.
