Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has raised concerns about the lack of response from the Centre regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's letters seeking the cancellation of rape-accused MP Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport. Prajwal, who faces charges of sexually assaulting women, left for Germany just before the allegations surfaced against him.
Parameshwara criticized External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's statement that the request to cancel Prajwal’s diplomatic passport was received only on May 21. He questioned the status of a letter sent by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, indicating a lack of communication or acknowledgment from the Centre.
According to Parameshwara, despite Siddaramaiah's initial letter to PM Modi on May 1 and subsequent communication from the state's Special Investigation Team (SIT), there has been no response or acknowledgment from the Centre. This lack of response raises concerns about the seriousness with which such requests are being addressed.
Parameshwara highlighted the importance of due respect and consideration when a Chief Minister writes to the Prime Minister's Office, emphasizing the need for prompt action and acknowledgment. He expressed disappointment over the delay in the Centre's response, particularly given the gravity of the situation involving a rape-accused MP.
Siddaramaiah sent a second letter to the Prime Minister on May 22, reiterating the urgency of canceling Prajwal’s diplomatic passport. Despite these efforts, there has been no substantial response from the Centre, leaving the state government and SIT concerned about the lack of cooperation in addressing the issue.
The issuance of a Blue Corner Notice by Interpol and an arrest warrant by a Special Court for Elected Representatives underscores the seriousness of the allegations against Prajwal. However, without cooperation from the Centre in canceling his diplomatic passport, apprehending him and ensuring justice for the victims becomes more challenging.
