In a distressing incident in Karnataka's Haveri district, a 50-year-old woman named Hanumavva Kom faced a harrowing ordeal when she was forcibly tied to an electric pole and subjected to physical assault. This brutal act transpired following allegations that her son had eloped with his girlfriend from their village in Aremallapura.
The incident unfolded on April 29, eliciting shock and outrage in the community. Hanumavva's son, Manjunath, had reportedly absconded with his beloved, Pooja, with whom he had been romantically involved for two years.
Upon learning of the elopement, Pooja's family members vented their fury on Hanumavva, holding her responsible for the actions of her son. They forcefully dragged her from her residence and proceeded to restrain her by tethering her to an electric pole, subjecting her to a vicious assault.
The savagery of the attack prompted swift intervention from local law enforcement authorities, who promptly arrived at the scene and rescued Hanumavva from her assailants. Subsequently, a formal complaint was lodged, leading to the registration of a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
The swift action by law enforcement authorities culminated in the arrest of three individuals implicated in the heinous assault on Hanumavva. However, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to unravel the circumstances surrounding this deplorable incident and ensure justice for the victim and her family.
