'KCR wanted to force party to arrest BJP leader': major allegation in phone tapping controversy

Former Telangana Deputy Commissioner of Police Radha Kishan Rao, who was arrested in connection with a phone-tapping scandal, has reportedly made a confession alleging involvement in the scheme. According to his statement to Hyderabad Police, Rao implicated several high-ranking officials and political figures, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

Rao claimed that KCR, referred to as 'Peddayana,' orchestrated a plan to have senior BJP leader BL Santhosh arrested to pressure the party into a compromise. The alleged goal was to use Santhosh's arrest as leverage to resolve a case involving KCR's daughter and MLC K Kavitha, who was facing charges related to a money laundering case.

However, Rao stated that the plan faced obstacles, with one important individual escaping police apprehension due to inefficiencies among Cyberabad police officers. The case eventually went to the High Court, where no arrest orders were issued, leading to the involvement of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Rao expressed his reluctance to disclose further details of the case, citing his indebtedness to KCR for reappointing him twice and assigning him to the City Task Force after his retirement.

Additionally, Rao alleged that the phone-tapping operation was overseen by Prabhakar Rao, Chief of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), who targeted individuals perceived as threats to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). This intelligence was allegedly used to monitor and neutralize potential threats to the party.

The investigation into the scandal has resulted in the arrest of several individuals, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Praneeth Rao, Additional Superintendent of Police Bhujanga Rao, and senior police officer Tirupathanna.
