In Kerala's Kollam district, a tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday as a 45-year-old man took the lives of his wife and daughter by slitting their throats, before attempting to end his own life. The accused, identified as Sreeju from Poothakkulam, is currently in critical condition and receiving medical care after being hospitalized.
According to police reports, there are suspicions that Sreeju administered poison to his wife Preetha (39) and their daughter Sreenandha (12) before carrying out the fatal act of slitting their throats. The lifeless bodies of Preetha and Sreenandha were discovered in their residence on Tuesday morning.
Despite attempting to inflict harm on his elder son Sreerag (17) and subsequently himself, both individuals were found in critical condition, requiring immediate medical attention, as confirmed by the Paravur police.
Authorities speculate that financial hardships may have been the underlying cause behind this horrific incident and the subsequent suicide attempt by Sreeju, who worked as a mason by profession.
"The man and his son are currently undergoing treatment. The son has been admitted to a nearby hospital, while the man has been transferred to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College," a police official stated.
