Madhavi Raje Scindia, the mother of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, on Wednesday. She had been on ventilator support for the past few days and breathed her last at 9:28 am.
Madhavi Raje was admitted to Delhi AIIMS before the third phase of voting in the Lok Sabha polls. She was battling pneumonia along with sepsis.
Her final rites are scheduled to take place in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Madhavi Raje hailed from Nepalese royalty and was married to Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia II. The veteran Congress leader, Madhavrao Scindia, tragically lost his life in a plane crash near Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh on September 30, 2001.
Known for her philanthropic endeavors, Madhavi Raje was actively involved in charitable work and served as the chairperson of 24 trusts dedicated to various fields such as education and healthcare.
She also held the position of chief of the board of governors of the Scindias Kanya Vidyalaya, an institution focused on providing education to girls. Additionally, she established the Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia II gallery in the palace museum as a tribute to her late husband.
