Man to run in the Lok Sabha elections is accused of killing a Shiv Sena leader in Punjab

The decision for Sandeep Singh Sunny, accused of the murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri, to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Punjab's Amritsar constituency has stirred controversy. Despite being incarcerated in a Punjab jail, some Sikh organizations have announced his candidacy during a press conference with his family.

Sunny's candidacy adds a layer of complexity to the political landscape of Amritsar, which already features a diverse array of contenders. The Congress continues to back Gurjeet Singh Aujla, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) presents Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, a Cabinet Minister and Ajnala MLA, as its candidate. On the other hand, the BJP nominates former IFS officer Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and the Shiromani Akali Dal chooses Anil Joshi, a former BJP member.

Amritsar has a rich electoral history, with prominent figures like Navjot Singh Sidhu securing victories for the BJP in the past. As the electoral race intensifies, the outcome of the polls remains uncertain, with Punjab set to vote in the final phase of polling on June 1, and the results slated for June 4.
