Indian Army personnel deployed under the Red Shield Division in Manipur successfully defused three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the Imphal East district late Saturday evening, preventing potential explosions in the troubled region. On Sunday, the Indian Army confirmed that their vigilance and prompt action had averted a major tragedy by safely diffusing the IEDs planted on a road in Imphal East district.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Defence of Manipur, Nagaland, and South Arunachal, the IEDs were discovered on the road connecting Nongdam Tangkhul and Etham Tangkhul villages, near Maphou Dam. During a routine area domination and surveillance operation, Army personnel noticed the three IEDs placed along the road. Acting swiftly, the Army column cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of the locals.
The Bomb Disposal Squad was then called to the location, where they safely diffused the IEDs, thereby preventing any potential loss of life or injury. This successful operation highlighted the alertness and effectiveness of the Indian Army personnel in maintaining security in the region.
This discovery came just days after a tragic incident in Manipur’s Imphal West district, where a 41-year-old man was killed and two others were injured by unidentified assailants. The shooting occurred on May 18 outside their rented accommodation in the Naoremthong area. The deceased was identified as Shree Ram Hangsada, a resident of Jharkhand, while the injured were Bittu Murmu (22) and Mitalal Soran (50), according to a police statement.
