Maoists and security forces in Odisha exchange gunfire, injuring a jawan

A member of the Odisha Police's Special Operation Group (SOG) was injured by a bullet during an early morning gunfight with Maoists in the Nuapada district on Monday, according to a senior police official.

The confrontation took place at approximately 3 am when SOG personnel engaged with Maoists in the Sunabeda forest area near Shivanarayanpur, close to the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, as detailed by ADG (Operations) Dev Datta Singh.

"During the exchange of gunfire, an SOG jawan was hit by a bullet. He was immediately transported to Raipur for medical treatment and is now out of danger," Singh reported.

Later that morning, around 8 am, security forces encountered another group of Maoists about 3 kilometers from Shivanarayanpur. "Another firefight broke out, but the Maoists managed to flee the scene. We believe some of them were injured during this second encounter," Singh added.

Subsequent search operations led to the discovery of 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a loaded pistol, and various other incriminating items, Singh noted.
