External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) received the request from the Karnataka government regarding the cancellation of suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport on May 21. Jaishankar emphasized that the MEA operates by the law and follows due process.
However, after Jaishankar's statement, the Karnataka government released a letter from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dated May 1, requesting the cancellation of Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport. In the letter, Siddaramaiah expressed concern over Prajwal's departure to Germany on April 27, using his diplomatic passport, amid allegations against him and pending FIRs.
The letter urged swift action from the Ministry of External Affairs and Home Affairs to cancel Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport in light of his alleged actions and the ongoing investigations.
Prajwal Revanna, who is contesting for re-election in the general elections and is the grandson of a former Prime Minister, faced controversy following the emergence of explicit videos allegedly involving him. He left for Germany on April 27, shortly after the first FIR was filed against him, and has since remained elusive. Interpol has issued a 'Blue Corner Notice' seeking information on his whereabouts.
Facing charges of sexual abuse, Prajwal Revanna is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a Special Court for Elected Representatives on May 18, following an application by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
