The government formed the panel immediately after the bail orders for the teen involved in the Pune Porsche crash case were issued by JJB's Non-Judicial Member, Dr. LN Danwade. In response to this, the Maharashtra government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to scrutinize the conduct of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members and ensure that the norms were followed in issuing orders related to the Pune car crash case, an official announced on Wednesday.
Last week, the state's Woman and Child Development Department (WCD) formed a five-member committee to investigate the matter. This panel, led by a deputy commissioner-rank officer from the department, is expected to submit its report by next week.
The incident in question occurred on May 19 in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area, where a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a teen, collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals. Police reported that the 17-year-old driver was intoxicated at the time. After the teen's arrest, the JJB granted him bail and required him to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, a decision that sparked widespread criticism.
The JJB is composed of a judicial member and two state-appointed members. Prashant Narnavare, the WCD commissioner, stated, "We have formed a committee to probe the overall conduct of the JJB members appointed by the state government, to check whether norms were followed while issuing orders in the car accident case."Â
He further emphasized, "I have powers under the Juvenile Justice Act to investigate the overall conduct of the members appointed by the state government. We have set up a committee to assess the overall conduct of the JJB members in connection with the order that granted bail to the juvenile after the accident."
The panel's formation and subsequent investigation underscore the government's commitment to ensuring justice and adherence to legal protocols in this high-profile case.
