In a sharp critique directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury suggested that Modi's silence on the NDA's initial ambition of securing 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections hinted at his apprehension following the initial phases of polling.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the West Bengal Congress chief and incumbent candidate from Baharampur, emphasized this sentiment during an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak/India Today TV. He noted a perceptible shift in Modi's discourse, highlighting the absence of references to the earlier target of 400 seats.
Expressing confidence in his electoral prospects, Chowdhury dismissed the notion of facing formidable competition, asserting his strong track record as the representative of Baharampur since 1999. He downplayed any challenge posed by former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, the Trinamool Congress candidate, and Nirmal Kumar Saha, the BJP nominee.
Responding to queries about the absence of an INDIA bloc in West Bengal, Chowdhury suggested a political understanding between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and PM Modi, alleging that their agreement precluded the formation of such an alliance.
Polling in Baharampur is scheduled for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 13, with results anticipated to be declared on June 4.
