Based on intelligence inputs, security forces in Maharashtra successfully thwarted a potential major IED attack orchestrated by Naxalites in the state's Gadchiroli district. Officials reported the seizure of six pressure cookers containing explosives, detonators, and three claymore pipes filled with explosives and shrapnel.
Promptly responding to the intelligence, teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), C-60 commando unit, and a Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were dispatched to the Tipagad area of Gadchiroli. Upon arrival, they discovered the cache of explosives as well as gunpowder, medications, and blankets at the scene.
In addition to confiscating the explosives, the BDDS team demolished nine IEDs and three claymore pipes on-site. The operation was conducted amid credible intelligence suggesting Maoists' intentions to carry out IED blasts during the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. While the specific location was not specified in the intel, security forces conducted area domination exercises and implemented heavy deployment to prevent potential attacks.
The Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha constituency, where the operation took place, held elections on April 19, with results scheduled for announcement on June 4.
