In his application for anticipatory bail, Prajwal Revanna emphatically denied all allegations against him, asserting that the accusations are purely politically motivated and that the evidence presented is fabricated.
Prajwal Revanna, a suspended leader from the JD(S) party and currently facing serious charges of sexual abuse, has reached out to a court in Bengaluru to seek anticipatory bail. Since the sex tape scandal surfaced last month, Revanna has been on the run. He is expected to return to India from Germany on Friday, May 31.
Revanna, who serves as a Member of Parliament representing Hassan, left India after the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. His departure occurred after several explicit videos, allegedly involving him, were made public, leading to multiple legal cases being filed against him.
A former member of the zilla panchayat in Hassan has accused Revanna of rape.
In his application for anticipatory bail, Revanna denied all allegations, asserting that the accusations were politically driven and the evidence fabricated.Â
The bail application stated, "Prajwal has not committed the acts alleged in the complaint, nor has he engaged in any of the offenses mentioned in the current case. The supposed electronic evidence is entirely fabricated to construct a false case."
Revanna mentioned that he previously had a good relationship with the accuser, highlighting her involvement in his recent election campaign.
"Prajwal and the complainant were on good terms as representatives of the people. She was closely associated with his campaign during the recent election. Prajwal is shocked by the wild allegations made in the complaint," the application stated.
Revanna argued that his political rise had provoked vengeance and ill will, resulting in the creation of fake and altered photographs and videos to damage his and his family's reputation.
"In June 2023, Prajwal had to file a civil suit upon discovering that fake and morphed photographs and videos were being used to harm his reputation," the application stated.
The application also claimed a smear campaign. It alleged that the Chief Minister of Karnataka, without any investigation, implicated Prajwal in an obscene video through a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on April 27, 2024.
"This aspect clearly indicates political orchestration during the election and is the reason for the pre-judged statement by the Chief Minister of the State and the misuse of power by State agencies," it argued.
Revanna further asserted that his departure from the country was pre-planned and unrelated to the allegations.
"Prajwal participated in the election process on April 26, 2024, and left the country as he had already planned. However, a smear campaign was orchestrated against Prajwal and his father, eventually leading to the filing of false cases," the application read.
Blaming the state government and the Chief Minister for the alleged smear campaign, Revanna maintained that the charges against him were a vindictive move for political gain during the ongoing general election.
"As a law-abiding citizen and representative of the people, Prajwal holds the highest regard for the legal process. However, due to the smear campaign and misuse of power by the State, he was disturbed and distressed, taking some days to gather himself," the application concluded.
