Pune teen barred from driving till he's 25, father sent to 2-day police custody

Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar announced that the 17-year-old boy involved in the tragic accident, which claimed the lives of two IT professionals in Pune, will face restrictions on obtaining a driving license until he reaches the age of 25. Additionally, state transport authorities revealed that the permanent registration of the Porsche Taycan involved in the incident had been pending since March due to unpaid fees.

Meanwhile, Vishal Agarwal, the father of the teen driver, was arrested in connection with the accident and appeared before a Pune court, which remanded him to police custody until May 24. The minor driver was also brought before a juvenile court, facing a new case for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Initially charged with culpable homicide, the minor was granted bail within 14 hours by the court, citing his status as a minor. Further investigations revealed a bill of Rs 48,000 from a bar where the minor had reportedly consumed alcohol before the accident.

Bhimanwar elaborated that the luxury vehicle involved in the accident would not be permitted to register at any Regional Transport Office (RTO) for 12 months, as its temporary registration would be canceled under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The Porsche, imported by a Bengaluru-based dealer, was found to have unpaid registration fees.

According to state transport officials, the vehicle had a valid temporary registration certificate from Karnataka, but it had not completed the registration process in Pune. Consequently, the Pune RTO was instructed to file a police complaint for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Another official stated that the Porsche would be impounded for 12 months due to gross negligence in the accident, including driving at excessive speeds and driving without a license or proper registration.

Furthermore, a state government hospital is set to release the blood report of the teen driver, which allegedly confirms alcohol consumption before the fatal accident.
